How to wash stockings

  -Strümpfe waschen- 

 I've been wearing stockings for a few weeks now and haven't been wearing thights ever since. But, as with any other garment, they have to be washed. In a way they're not being ruined. I have never put stockings in the washing machine. I always hand-wash them. Recently I saw a movie/documentary about the 1950s (Die Bräuteschule 1958) and they washed stockings in a glass jar. A tiny washing machine :).      

Seit einige Wochen trage ich jetzt Strümpfe. Strumpfhosen  habe ich seitdem gar nicht mehr getragen. Aber, sowie alle Kleidungsstücken, müssen sie gewaschen werden. und zwar so, das sie nicht kaputt gehen. Ich habe Strümpfe noch nie im Waschmachine gewaschen, aber meistens mit Hand.  Letzten habe ich einen Film/Doku gesehen (Die Bräuteschule 1958) und die haben Strümpfe in einem Glas mit Deckel, oder eins zum Wecken.

                                         

All you need is a big glass jar with a lid. Fill it with lukewarm water and add some laundry detergent or shampoo/soap.

Alles was du brauchst ist ein Glas mit Deckel. Fülle es mit warmes Wasser und füge Seife/Shampoo hinzu.

Now take your stockings and fold them gently. Put them into the glass jar and put the lid on the jar.

Nimm deine Strümpfe und falte sie ganz vorsichtig. Lege sie in dem Glas und mach es mit dem Deckel zu.

Shake the jar very well, just for a few minutes. Take off the lid and put the stockings aside.

Schüttele das Glas für einige Minuten. Nimm den Deckel ab und lege die Strümpfe  zur Seite.

As you can see, the water is rather dirty.

Take your stockings and squeeze them out a bit.

'Kneife' das Wasser aus die Strümpfe.

Replace the dirty water in the jar by fresh, clear water and rinse them. If they are still 'soapy', rinse again untill they're not 'soapy' anymore.

Ersetze das schmutzige Wasser durch frisches, klares Wasser und spüle die Strümpfe.

 Let them hang untill they're completely dry. I always 'pull' them into shape when they are still wet.

Lasse sie hangen bis sie komplett trocken sind. Ich ziehe sie immer im Form.
