Blouse refashioning

A few days ago, I went to a 2nd-hand clothing store and bought a few things, which included this white blouse. I bought it because I needed a new one, and I really love the fabric. It looks so much like crepe ! I also really liked the  cuffs, but I did not really like the length of the sleeves. So, I decided to alter the sleeves !

It was very simple to do. First, I measured how long I wanted the sleeve to be. I pinned and then cut the fabric with a little seam allowance. Then, I took the cuffs, and cut them off the sleeves with 1,5 cm seam allowance. I pinned the cuffs on the shortened sleeves, and created a little pleat at the top because the sleeve was bigger than the cuff.

Now, I have a new white blouse, and I think it looks quite authentic if paired with the right skirt/suit/sweater etc. What do you think ? (The sleeves look quite uneven-but they are not !)

And here a little question : Would anyone be interested in a tutorial on how to make a bolero suit ? Like the right drawing:

With love,

Jip.

Good work, the perfect little piece to go with anything to top off an outfit. I don't know much about sewing a bolero suit, Maybe you could try a regular suit with the coat shortened a bit? I have found a pattern for a knitted bolero jacket, though. Of course it would not be a full suit so it depends on how you want the look.
Have a great day :)

@ funwithvintage

Thank you I really like this length too !

@ Abigail

Thanks, I'm sure I can pair this with a lot of other garments. A bolero suit is very simple, its just a bolero and a simple A-line skirt in the same fabric. I wish you a nice day, too :)

This is such a lovely revamping! I'm a huge fan 3/4 length sleeves. They hide one of my least favourite body parts (my upper arms) and highlight another that I love (my wrists).

You are very talented! That's a great blouse. Do I understand correctly that you have the opportunity to sew at school? I'm curious to learn more about that sometime! I love that you are so resourceful and industrious--characteristics that seem to be true in many vintage fans. You should be very proud!

@Jessica,

I also love that sleeve length!

@ Anthea,

helaas ben ik erachter gekomen dat de blouse me niet goed past. Dus ik ga er zelf een in m'n eigen maat maken. Soms vind ik iets veranderen ook lastig. Maar meestal lukt het wel.

@ Ann

Thank you so much ! Unfortunately the blouse doesn't fit me very well, it is a bit too big. I go to a dressmakers' school, so it's the only thing I do at school. I try to be resourceful, just like the women in the 30s and 40s.:)
