A new garter belt

Today, I decided to sew a garter belt for myself. My old one is not in a wearable condition and I had to make a new one. And now I finally did !

Making this was so easy. I made a pattern of my old garter belt and somehow managed to sew it together. It is not perfect, but for a first attempt I am rather satisfied with how it turned out !

with love,

Jip.

This is so splendidly lovely! I adore that you made it using white eyelet fabric. That is really and truly one of my all-time favourite fabrics (it always makes me think of summers at my paternal grandparents house as my grandma had some cushions covered in it back then out on her covered deck).

Well done! This sure brings back memories, but I never owned one as cute as this!

What a great idea! I am always looking for (vintage) garter belts but somehow never thought about making one for myself. Did you use old fasteners (I don't know the right term for these) or did you buy them somewhere?

@ Jessica

I love the Fabric, I still have a lot of it so maybe I will sew some knickers and a slip dress to go with it as well !

@ Miss Beta

thank you !

@ Taygan

I am still going to buy one as soon as I have the money because of of the garter clips is broken.. This was just a garter belt I could wear until I find a new one. But with good materials, you can make one yourself that will last a long time, I think.

@ Janey

Thank you !

@ Ann Kennedy

Thank you ! What kind of garter belt did you used to have ?

@ Draped in Cloudlets

Once you have a pattern and the right materials it is really easy. I used original 1930s/1940s garter clips. But onfortunately, one is broken so I have to replace it. I sometimes find them on Ebay or flea markets.
